Dustin Parker, paralegal at Montgomery Legal PLLC

Simplify the adoption process with experienced legal guidance.

Adoption involves careful legal steps, and families deserve guidance that keeps the process as clear and manageable as possible. Montgomery Legal PLLC helps clients in Asheville and Western North Carolina understand the requirements and move forward with personalized legal support so you can focus on your growing family.

Who this is for

Families come to this work at different points: a stepparent who has already been raising a child, relatives who need the legal relationship to match the home the child already lives in, or parents who are beginning a private adoption and need the court filings done correctly. The common thread is that adoption is a legal process, not only a family decision. Missing a consent, a notice, or a hearing date can delay a result everyone already treats as settled.

This office assists with the family-law side of adoption. We do not handle immigration or visa work as part of this practice area.

How we can help

  • Explaining the legal steps that apply to your situation so you know what has to happen before a decree, not only what you hope will happen.
  • Preparing and filing the petition and supporting papers the court requires.
  • Identifying whose consent or notice is needed, and helping complete those steps when they are part of the case.
  • Coordinating required reports, home studies, or other court-ordered items when they apply.
  • Representing you at hearings so the file is complete and the request is presented clearly.
  • Following through after the hearing on the paperwork that makes the adoption effective in school, medical, and other records.

What to expect

The first conversation is about the child’s current legal status, who already has parental rights, and what you are asking the court to do. From there we map the filings, the people who must be notified, and a realistic sequence. Timelines depend on the facts and on the court. We will not invent a date we cannot control.

This page is general information, not legal advice about a particular adoption. To discuss the process, use the Contact page. The cost calculator can show a sample estimate for discussion; it is not a quote or a retainer.
